Mobile Crane Operator N/SVQ

Overview

The Red CPCS Trained Operator Card is valid for 2 years. In this time card holders are required to achieve the relevant SVQ Award in order to upgrade to the Blue Competent Operator Card. Blue cards last for 5 years.

Target Delegates

This programme is aimed at individuals who hold a Red CPCS Trained Operator Card and need to achieve the relevant SQA Award in order to convert to a Blue CPCS Competent Operator Card. For those who don't follow the CPCS scheme, the qualification can be undertaken to underpin their competency in the job role.

The Qualification

Qualification Title: Level 2 National/Scottish Vocational Qualification in Plant Operations - Cranes & Specialist Lifting Plant.

Achieving The Qualification

To achieve the qualification candidates must gather naturally occurring work based evidence which would include some or all of the following:

  • Time sheets provided by the operator which are signed by the operator and manager.
  • Daily/Weekly plant checks signed by the operator and manager or fitter.
  • Method/Risk Assessments specific to the operator.
  • Copies of CPCS card and any relevant training certificates.
  • Any other documentation which is agreed as being valid by the assessor and candidate.

Certification

On completion of the qualification certificates of achievement will be issued from the awarding body; SQA Awards. Provided the candidate has an in date operatives Health & Safety Test the Blue Competent Operator Card can then be applied for. These cards last for 5 years.

Duration

There is no set time for the assessment process to take, candidates can work towards gaining the award at their own pace.
